50 Employees and Zero HR? That’s a Red Flag!

Had an eye-opening conversation yesterday with a CFO of a growing business...

Their company is thriving with around 50 employees, but they've been operating without any HR support. What prompted them to reach out?

The realisation that upcoming employment law changes could leave them significantly exposed. She described it as 'the red flag I needed to get something sorted'

It's a scenario I'm seeing more frequently. Businesses focused on growth suddenly recognising the compliance risks they've been accumulating along the way. This CFO was particularly concerned about how these new regulations would impact their operations without proper HR infrastructure in place.

This is exactly why I emphasise the importance of proactive HR planning rather than reactive crisis management. Growing businesses often don't realise how vulnerable they are until a regulatory change or workplace issue forces the conversation.

If you're in a similar position with a growing team but limited HR capability, I'd be happy to discuss how these upcoming employment law changes might affect your business and what practical steps you can take to protect yourself.

The right time to address HR gaps isn't after you've encountered problems - it's before they occur.
